Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration and Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs held the International Forum “Modern Challenges in Combatting and Prevention of Domestic violence”. The event was held in terms of “16 Days without Violence” action.
The forum aimed at creating practical recommendations, unified approaches and system interaction between parties to prevention and combatting domestic violence to enhance the mechanism of response to this phenomenon and provide victims with complex assistance in compliance with international and national standards.
Over 300 participants took part in the forum, including representatives of central and local state power bodies, specialists from educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, heads of district state administrations, representatives of free legal assistance system, local self-government bodies, united territorial communities as well as representatives of international and national organizations, scientists and practical officers.
Iryna Hrytsai, deputy head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, and Larysa Nalyvaiko, DSUIA vice rector, were the event moderators.
Speakers included outstanding experts and representatives of profile ministries, such as Kateryna Levchenko, governmental authorized person in gender policy, deputy head of the Gender Equality Commission (Council of Europe); Kateryna Pavlichenko, deputy of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine; Olha Revuk, deputy of the Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine in European Integration; Maryna Lehenka, vice president of the social organization “La-Strada Ukraine”.
According to the participants, Dnipropetrovsk region is a pillar for implementing combatting domestic violence policy.
Moreover, Kateryna Pavlichenko emphasized that the national law enforcement system had substantially advanced its activity in terms of combatting domestic violence within the previous years. The specialists have been trained based on the best international practices with engaging outstanding international experts. Coordination and interaction of subjects to combatting and preventing domestic violence in Dnipropetrovsk region is the result of efficient and initiative cooperation between Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration and DSUIA.
Representatives of international organizations shared their experience in combatting and preventing domestic violence as well, including Gediminas Buciunas, the EUAM expert in Ukraine; Ludivine Estienne, monitoring officer at the OSCE, Pavlo Zamostian, deputy representative of the UNFPA, etc.
Key topic of the forum was the discussion of a leading role of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in combatting and prevention of domestic violence. Vasyl Bohdan, head of Preventive Means and Combatting Domestic Violence Unit of the Preventive Activity Department of the National Police of Ukraine, deputy head of District Police Officers Department, as well as domestic violence combatting trainers Olena Kovaliova (Odesa State University of Internal Affairs), Mykola Repan (DSUIA), Volodymyr Vysotskyi and Iryna Yevkhutych (Lviv State University of Internal Affairs) presented separate aspects of training police officers to combat domestic violence.
It shall be mentioned that the event is held annually in terms of “16 Days without Violence” action.
