On 06 July, the expert NATO delegation headed by Captain Matthew Stoner, officer of the Canadian Armed Forces Joint Task Force-Ukraine (UNIFIER), visited Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs in terms of the working visit to Dnipro.
Larysa Nalyvaiko, DSUIA vice-rector, and Iryna Hrytsai, Rector’s advisor on gender issues, participated in the working meeting. Issues discussed included engaging DSUIA in the formation of a unified multilevel professional educational system in security and defense sector under the NATO standards, implementation of the Alliance standards in the educational and scientific activity as well as cooperation with the NATO Representation in Ukraine.
Larysa Nalyvaiko presented key advantages and experience of Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs in training law enforcements under the best NATO standards and practices. The delegation visited DSUIA polygons used for this aim, the courtroom, “Barna House” training ground and interactive classroom for combating domestic violence.
Separate attention was paid to DSUIA psycho-training complex, where psychologists provide professional aid to the JFO veterans and victims of the armed conflict. Perspectives of the advanced training for the university psychologists in terms of work with military men based on the NATO training projects were discussed as well.
International events devoted to the NATO integration are regularly held at DSUIA by initiative of its rector Andrii Fomenko. Further conducting scientific research of Ukraine integration to NATO problems was also discussed during the meeting, in particular, providing gender equality in security and defense sector. Besides, the potential of DSUIA scientific laboratories was defined, including Educational-and-Scientific Laboratory for the Research Internally Displaced Persons’ Legal Status Issues and Securing Gender Equality.
As DSUIA representatives emphasized, Ukraine integration to NATO was our priority, thus, DSUIA has been included in the implementation of the relevant policy.
Under the results of the meeting further key cooperation perspectives were determined. In addition, Captain Matthew Stoner, officer of the Canadian Armed Forces Joint Task Force-Ukraine (UNIFIER), mentioned that he planned to develop a standardized educational program for Ukrainian military cadets to understand gender stereotypes and prejudices. In the frames of the planned work the NATO representative offered Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs to participate in the joint workshop in September 2021 with the engagement of Ukrainian HEIs’ representatives aiming at developing this educational program.
