The conference program can be found on the conference website along with the online registration form (skráning). Attendees can also register on the spot. Presenters have to be pre-registered. The registration fee is 40 euros (includes conference materials and refreshments). Here is the conference Facebook page.
The Policing and Society Conference is a venue where Icelandic and international academics and professionals meet and converse about policing in a broad sense. The keynote speakers reflect the theme of this year’s conference: Crime Prevention, which refers to measures to reduce crime and its impact on society. Iceland lacks a comprehensive strategy in this area, but research shows that responsible crime prevention reduces crime, increases people’s sense of security, and reduces the social costs of crime. The fundamental role that the police play for crime prevention requires our attention and in-depth examination.
This year’s conference is the biggest on yet and includes 48 presentations. The theme of the conference is Crime Prevention, and the topics of the presentations are wide-ranging, including police education in the 21st century, preventing cybercrime, hate crime, community service, human trafficking, fear of crime, honesty among police students, and community policing. Presentations are delivered in either Icelandic or English. We look forward to seeing you up north at the Policing and Society Conference!
