Stereotypes don’t Define Us: Pre-Premier Screening of a Documentary at DSUIA

Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs joined the initiative “HeForSheUniversityTour”. In terms of the project DSUIA students and cadets participated in thematic event and presentation of the documentary.

Meeting started with video-greetings by Kateryna Pavlichenko, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, who made combatting gender discrimination and stereotypes an actual topic among youngsters.

Larysa Nalyvaiko, DSUIA vice-rector, Iryna Hrytsai, DSUIA Rector’s adviser on gender, Olha Diachuk, HeForShe movement coordinator in Ukraine (UN Women), Kyrylo Krasnokutskyi, EU4GenderEquality program coordinator (UN Women), and Roman Vintoniv, TV presenter and HeForShe movement lawyer in Ukraine, were the speakers at the event.

In course of the meeting, participants shared their thoughts about gender stereotypes and gender equality. Besides, UN Women experts dispelled myths, which were of interest among students.

Moreover, pre-premier screening of the movie “Stereotypes don’t Define Us” took place at the university. The documentary shows, how men and women successfully work and develop themselves in different spheres.

Heroes of the movie are famous people and leaders in their professional activities, who decided to share their own stories about gender stereotypes, which they had been facing on their way to personal achievements. They also told about their experience in overcoming such stereotypes and prejudice.

Upon watching the movie, all present could share their impressions.

It shall be mentioned that HeForShe is an international campaign for achieving gender equality and protecting women’s rights. The project engages boys and men as the agents for changes, who fight against women inequality. DSUIA joined HeForShe movement thanks to the initiative of Student-and-Cadet Center of Gender Culture.

In general, gender topic at DSUIA is not just a point of scientific research and educational process, but also the issue of active discussion among students and cadets with interesting speakers as well as competitions, self-development trainings, etc.
