Cadets and students of Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs joined the international project “Model of Youth NATO Parliamentary Assembly” organized by the National Interest Advocacy Network (ANTS) supported by the NATO Representation to Ukraine. More than 100 students from all over Ukraine participated in the event.
Mariia Nosenko, Mariia Pianychuk, Anastasiia Chechel, Kira Shcherbyna (cadets of the Educational-and-Scientific Institute of Law and Training Specialists for the National Police Units) as well as Kateryna Khmelenko (student of the Educational-and-Scientific Institute of Law and Innovative Education) partook in the project.
Peculiarity of the event was simulation of a real NATO Parliamentary Assembly with the participation of committees, President, Vice-President, Secretary General and representatives of member states. Students and cadets had listened to a course of lectures about NATO before the participation in the event itself. Under the results of the distant work the most active youngsters had been selected, who then attended the main event in Kyiv.
Moreover, Kateryna Khmelenko joined the collective development of the Defence and Security Committee resolution. DSUIA student presented her working group, defended the resolution draft, participated in debates and voted.
In course of the event, the participants could meet famous specialists and diplomats from NATO member states, including Oleksii Selin, EU and NATO Ambassador in Special Matters; Oksana Yurynets, head of the permanent delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (2018-2019); Solomiia Bobrovska, deputy head of the permanent delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly; Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, vice-prime-minister in European and Euro Atlantic Integration of Ukraine (2016-2019); Vineta Klaine, director of the NATO Documentation and Information Centre in Ukraine, etc.
Bartosz Cichocki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine, Nicolas Harrocks, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Kyiv, and others joined this Parliamentary Assembly.
Olha Stefanishyna, vice-prime-minister in European and Euro Atlantic Integration, told the participants about preparatory actions of Ukraine to collaboration with the NATO and emphasized that the work of the participants was extremely valuable. The speaker expressed her hope for the project continuation.
Famous civil and political representatives of Ukraine and foreign countries, such as Ruslan Stefanchuk, head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine; Ruxandra Popa, Deputy Secretary General of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, as well as representatives of Poland, Great Britain, USA and Latvia addressed to youngsters.
Students worked in the committees to create resolutions and discuss issues of Ukraine’s integration with the North Atlantic Alliance in terms of the first model of the Youth NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Ukraine.
Besides, DSUIA cadets and students visited Kyiv City State Administration in the frames of the project and had an opportunity to speak with Vitalii Klychko, city major. In addition, they were made acquainted with the voting procedure of deputies during hearings.
