Open Lectures by the US Professor for DSUIA Students

Joseph U. Schorer, lawyer of “Kirkland & Ellis”, professor of “School of Law Loyola University” (Chicago), gave the cycle of open lectures “Introduction to Company Law and Commercial Law” at Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs online.

Nearly 60 lecturers, students and cadets from DSUIA joined the classes.

The cycle included 3 lectures. The first lecture included the key attributes of each enterprise in the USA – sole proprietorship, corporation, partnership and limited liability company.

The second lecture focused more closely on the corporation. In the third lecture, the professor described the steps to “capitalize” a corporation.

DSUIA youth joined the discussion in English concerning key material issues. Besides, the format of lectures stipulated active involvement of the audience.

Moreover, Mr. Schorer expressed his solidarity with Ukraine and stated that he was happy to meet Ukrainian students, who continued their studies and wanted to obtain new knowledge despite the situation. He thanked the audience and finished the cycle with a video fragment of the pray for Ukraine appeared in a popular New-York TV-show.

It shall be mentioned that Joseph U. Schorer has a 40 year experience of work in company law sphere. The speaker clerked for a US federal judge for two years. For the next sixteen years, he worked at a big law firm in Chicago. For 3 years after that Mr. Schorer worked for a group of companies as their chief internal lawyer. In 2000, he left those companies to join another law firm called Kirkland & Ellis, where he works now. His professional experience includes finances, restructuring and equities of large corporations from Fortune 100 list in the USA.
