Discussion of the perspective of legal clinical practice in Ukraine

The Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs held an All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference on the topic “Legal clinical practice: formation, current state and development prospects”

In 2022, this event is held for the fifth time on the initiative of clinical students and in support of the legal clinical movement in Ukraine.

The event was organized by the “Istina” legal clinic of the State University of Ukraine, the Department of General Law Disciplines, as well as the Educational and Scientific Laboratory for the Study of Problems of the Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Gender Equality with the support of partners and stakeholders: the Southern Interregional Department of the Ministry of Justice, the Third Administrative Court of Appeal, the State Scientific Research Institute of construction and local self-government, the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine (Kharkov), the public organization “Association of Ukrainian Lawyers”, the Regional Center for Providing Free Secondary Legal Aid in the Dnipropetrovsk Region, etc.

More than 150 representatives of the legal clinical movement, centers of secondary free legal aid, scientists in the field of law, political science and other sciences, representatives of public organizations, students of higher education expressed interest in the problems of legal education, provision of free legal aid, legal clinical practice and sent abstracts of reports.

The event was attended by representatives from Odesa, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Vinnytsia, Lviv and Sumy regions.

Among the speakers: Serhii Sokolov, head of the Department of Communications and Legal Education of the Regional Center for Providing Free secondary legal assistance in the Dnipropetrovsk Region; Andriy Kuchuk, professor of the Department of Law and Methodology of Teaching Jurisprudence at Makarenko Sumy State Pedagogical University; Serhii Lysak, head of the section for the protection of human rights in criminal proceedings of the Committee for the Protection of Human Rights of the National Association of Lawyers of Ukraine; Oleksandr Litvinov, Head of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines of Didorenko Luhansk State University of Internal Affairs; Yana Sobko, editor of the legal online media “Layer”; Liliya Amelicheva, professor of the Department of Civil Law and Procedure, Manager of the Legal Clinic of Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University.

Scientific and pedagogical workers and students of higher education from 5 legal clinics presented their experience: Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University, Odesa University of Internal Affairs, Dnipro Humanitarian University, Makarenko Sumy State Pedagogical University.

Graduates of higher education of the Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs shared their experience of practice at the “Istina” legal clinic: Oryna Kovinenko, Kateryna Khmelenko and Sofiia Bidniak.

Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs has been a member of the legal clinical movement for over 20 years. Over this long period of time, the “Istina” youth center has held about 2,000 thematic events in the format of extracurricular trainings, master classes and practical classes on legal issues. 245 projects were implemented for students of higher education.

The “Istina” legal clinic has become a powerful educational hub, which is used for the formation of special and general competencies under the educational programs 081 “Law” and 262 “Law enforcement”. More than 3,000 students of higher education received practical skills in counseling and providing legal assistance on this basis.
