First of all, Rector Andrii Fomenko presented the critical areas of the university’s activities and specialties for which future law enforcement officers are trained at the institution. In particular, he mentioned the organization of the educational process in the conditions of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into the territory of Ukraine.
“The approach to the educational process was significantly changed in martial law conditions, because today police officers perform duties that were not characteristic of them before: documenting and solving war crimes, providing assistance to citizens during the evacuation, etc. That is why our institution also began to deepen the cadets in such work areas. As future law enforcement officers, they must be ready for any trials of martial law,” noted Andrii Fomenko.
The head of the institution also spoke about how active and wide-ranging the university’s volunteer work is. He presented the work of consultation centers, the point of invincibility, and also noted the free legal and psychological assistance provided to citizens by specialists.
“We are all united by one goal – Victory. We are doing everything possible together with the National Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. No one expected that our democratic country would face such a difficult test. But it is important for us to preserve our integrity and independence despite everything. And we are grateful for the invaluable assistance provided by your country,” the rector addressed Brendan Kelly.
The director of the Illinois state police noted that the State Security Service should be proud of how well it managed to adapt its work to the conditions of martial law.
“We are ready to deepen cooperation with you. A significant part of our work is dealing with the facts of sexual and domestic violence, as well as the use of firearms. We can work on joint projects and prospects for the participation of Ukrainian specialists in our training held together with ICITAP”, emphasized Brendan Kelly
During the working conversation, the speakers paid attention to the identification of key ways of establishing joint cooperation regarding the exchange of experience, conducting research, and professional training of law enforcement officers.
