The open regional championship in free-fighting (submission fight section) was held in Dnipro. About 500 athletes and more than 40 sports clubs took part in it.
The event began with children’s competitions. Young participants from 6 to 15 years old won the championship.
The cadets and officers of the institution presented DSUIA. Mykhailo Savchenko, who met his opponents in four bouts and confidently took second place in the category up to 57 kilograms, was among them.
Viktor Boguslavskyi, the Head of the Department of Special Physical Training of DSUIA, was the organizer of the championship. He said that many of the participants had been trained precisely at the institution of higher education.
During the event, the organizers expressed their gratitude to Oleksandr Morhunov, the rector of DSUIA, for his contribution to the development of sports: “Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs is one of the flagships of sports development in the region. Thanks to ancient traditions and scientific approaches to physical education, applied sports are developed in our educational institution, which are useful for police officers and may be needed during service”.
The next regional competitions and the Cup of Ukraine in free-fighting are planned for 2024.
