A practical session on the problematic issues of using UAVs during the investigation of incidents involving rocket attacks on civilian objects was conducted for graduating cadets of all specialties.
The event was organized by the Department of Criminal Procedure and Strategic Investigations of DSUIA in collaboration with investigators and experts from the Criminalistics Department of the Police Investigation Department of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
Attention was focused on the organizational stage of the operational activities of the investigative group from the moment of receiving information about the rocket attack, the creation and composition of the interdepartmental investigative group, personal safety measures, involvement of additional forces and means, forms of external and internal interaction of National Police units with representatives of the State Emergency Service, Security Service of Ukraine, explosive ordnance disposal units, sappers, forensic medical experts, and armament specialists.
Captain of Police Vadim KOLYMIETS, a UAV operator of the 1st class, demonstrated tactics for using UAV hardware at the “Investigation of War Crimes” training ground, emphasizing the possibilities of conducting reconnaissance and preliminary examination of the site of rocket debris falling in civilian areas using criminalistic methods of orienting, panoramic, nodal, and detailed video recording, as well as thermal imaging equipment.
On the training ground, experts from the Criminalistics Department, together with the senior lecturer of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Strategic Investigations, Police Lieutenant Colonel Denis YURYEV, emphasized the features of documenting the involvement of a UAV pilot (operator) in investigative actions in the protocol of the scene examination and the results of using an unmanned aerial vehicle during the examination of the scene to assess the possibility of further using the obtained data as evidence in criminal proceedings.
Conducting a practice-oriented educational session contributed to a deeper understanding of issues related to the organization, tactics, and methodology of conducting site examinations using UAV hardware, and also allowed for addressing issues related to ensuring the personal safety of participants in investigative actions in conditions of martial law.
