“Suicide Prevention in Communities”: Training for Junior Officers at DSUIA

The event was organized by specialists from the Psychological Support Department for junior officers among the students of the 3rd year of the Faculty of Law and Training of Specialists for Units of the National Police.

The training was conducted with the aim of preventing emergencies and avoiding suicidal behaviors among subordinates, as well as increasing psychological awareness. During the session, issues related to common prejudices about suicide, risk factors and warning signs, basic guidelines for providing assistance, and others were discussed. Skills for providing primary psychosocial support to individuals at risk of suicide and self-harm were practiced.

The trainer of the event, psychologist Yevheniya HLAGOLEVA, underwent training under the program for the preparation of regional trainers, which is implemented within the framework of the joint project “Interagency Cooperation in the Health Sector / UKR23/0016 Institutional Cooperation in the Health Sector” of the Akerhus University Hospital (Norway), the Mental Health Center of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and the NGO “Words Help,” with the financial support of the Government of Norway.

In the future, similar training sessions are planned for junior officers among the students of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Units of the Criminal Police and the Faculty of Training Specialists for Units of Preventive Activities.
