Representatives from the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA) and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, paving the way for new cooperation opportunities in security and education between Ukraine and Sweden.
The meeting was attended by DSUIA representatives and FBA leadership, including First Vice-Rector Ihor Magdalina, Director of the Institute of Law and Innovative Education Volodymyr Shablystiy, Head of the Department of Civil Law and Procedure Kristina Rezvorovych, Security Sector Reform Specialist Andreas Berg, and Head of FBA Programs in Ukraine Carin Göransson Sederstrand. The main purpose of the meeting was to sign the Memorandum of Understanding and discuss future collaboration with DSUIA.
During the meeting, both institutions presented their activities and emphasized the potential for cooperation in training security and law enforcement professionals. Ihor Magdalina highlighted the unique aspects of the educational process during martial law and the changes in police training. Carin Göransson Sederstrand stressed the priority of programs for Ukraine from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Folke Bernadotte Academy has extensive experience in developing security training programs and can ensure high-quality education through research and partnership with various sectors (Ukrainian, international, analytical centers, NGOs, local authorities, consultants, and police practitioners). The Academy values teaching methodology and is open to discussion and sharing its expertise.
A key topic of discussion was the long-term partnership with FBA, particularly the creation of a joint interdisciplinary course, “Community Security in Wartime,” to be introduced into DSUIA’s curriculum. This course aims to prepare specialists who can operate effectively in challenging conditions and ensure community safety. Additionally, the organization of short-term special courses and training for the police, involving experts from FBA and other international institutions, was discussed.
According to the Memorandum, the cooperation will focus on developing international educational programs and projects, exchanging experience and perspectives on the educational process, and promoting the exchange of scientific information. The parties agreed on an action plan to implement the joint interdisciplinary course. The collaborative effort aims to enhance security and law enforcement in Ukraine, which is crucial in the current context.
