A two-day training session was organized for instructors conducting sessions with war veterans. Participants received theoretical knowledge on psychological aspects of working with veterans and methodological features of physical and sports rehabilitation.
The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. The training took place at the National Academy of Internal Affairs with the participation of the state secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Inna YASHCHUK, deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Leonid TYMCHENKO, head of the Department of Education, Science and Sports of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Oleksandr TARASENKO, and other representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
From the Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs, head of the Department of Special Physical Training Viktor BOGUSLAVSKY and lecturer Margaryta CHOBOTKO participated. During the training, the importance of implementing a culture of adaptive veteran sports development was discussed, noting that returning to life through sports is one of the most effective types of hero adaptation.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid TYMCHENKO emphasized that creating conditions for the social rehabilitation of veterans is a priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. It is essential for veterans to feel victorious again, and the coach plays a crucial role in this process.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Inna YASHCHUK emphasized that veterans deserve the best conditions for health recovery and integration into society, so one of the priority areas of work with veterans is the development of adaptive veteran sports within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Director of the Department of Education, Science, and Sports of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Oleksandr TARASENKO noted that this is a moral obligation of society to those who sacrificed their health to protect Ukraine and an essential step towards the socialization and integration of war veterans into civilian life. Oleksandr TARASENKO reported that eight sports locations in higher education institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been identified for training with veterans across Ukraine. So far, 128 war veterans have been involved in these sessions, 50 of whom are people with disabilities.
Veterans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system also attended the event, each sharing their stories of being injured on the front line and how sports helped them return to life faster, particularly through the opportunity to participate in competitions.
The training also covered psychological aspects of working with veterans, rehabilitation issues, types of assistive devices, etc. Additionally, practical exercises and training complexes that can be used in work with veterans and people with disabilities were demonstrated.
Working with veterans in the field of adaptive sports requires qualified specialists who possess not only sports knowledge but also an understanding of veterans’ specific needs. Upon completion of the training, participants received appropriate certificates.
