A three-day training session was held at Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA) for representatives of relevant institutions and employees of the National Police from Donetsk, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv regions.
The main goal of the event was to enhance the capacity of specialists and community representatives, as well as the National Police of Ukraine, in identifying, preventing, and responding to cases of gender-based and domestic violence, especially under martial law conditions.
The event was organized by the Assistant Rector for Gender Issues at DSUIA, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Larysa NALYVAIKO, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine as part of the «EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine» project, financially supported by the European Union.
Trainers was Alina HARKUSHA, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Police Major, specialist in combating domestic violence at DSUIA. Kateryna MITCHCHENKO, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Pedagogy, practical psychologist, supervisor in a multimodal approach, psychotherapist in training (Conconans Therapy), member of UPA, UAPPO, NGO «Together,» and the International Association of Supervisors, gatekeeper, expert on domestic violence and mobbing.
The training was conducted in a sessional format, focusing participants’ attention on:Principles and tools for assisting victims of domestic violence. Features of crisis counseling, including primary psychological assistance for those experiencing trauma from violence. Government programs for offenders and their role in combating domestic violence. Communication with offenders considering war-related trauma, including organizing corrective work with offenders. Challenges and solutions in implementing offender programs. The «Green Room» methodology and «Barnahus» models. Interaction with children who have suffered from domestic violence, including action algorithms and responses to child abuse cases. Prevention of domestic violence – collaboration between communities and police. Prevention of emotional burnout and professional deformation.
Participants were actively engaged in practical exercises, such as: «Identifying Stereotypes” «Psychological Profile of Offenders and Helping Survivors of Violence», «Help Map for Survivors of Domestic Violence» based on provided cases. «Providing Primary Psychological Assistance». «Resource Map».«Building a Strategy for Working with Offenders», An interactive quest «Safety Chain», Exercise using MAC «Me and My World». «Circle of Gratitude».Watching videos, Tours to the «Child-Friendly Crisis Room», «Prevention and Counteraction to Domestic Violence Training Ground».
Upon completion of the training, participants received certificates.
