Officers, cadets of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA), and students from the Dnipro Lyceum of Security and National-Patriotic Education participated in events commemorating the Day of Remembrance for Defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The events began with a formation at the DSUIA parade ground. After the National Anthem, all present honored the fallen defenders with a moment of silence.
DSUIA Rector Oleksandr Morgunov addressed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of preserving the memory of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine. He highlighted the need for current cadets to be prepared to defend the country and resist the enemy.
During the formation at the Lyceum of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, leaders noted that the lessons of Ukraine’s history should be learned to become stronger, as only a strong nation can command respect and maintain independence.
Cadets and officers visited Krasnopilske Cemetery, where they laid flowers at the Memorial to the fallen defenders of Ukraine who perished in the fight for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The Day of Remembrance for Defenders of Ukraine is observed annually on August 29. This day was established by a Presidential Decree on August 23, 2019, to honor the heroism of military personnel and volunteers who gave their lives for the homeland, serving as a reminder of one of the bloodiest events of the war in eastern Ukraine—the Ilovaisk tragedy.
