Future Police Officers Learn About Human Rights Compliance in Law Enforcement

NEWS

During a training camp, practical police officers conducted a lecture for first-year cadets of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs on the subject “Community Interaction Based on Partnership.”

The lecture was delivered by Senior Lecturer Mykola Repan with contributions from Nataliya Urman, a senior inspector responsible for human rights compliance in police activities, and Tetyana Morgalenko, head of the Human Rights Sector at the Dnipro District Police Department.

The session covered topics such as human rights outlined in the Constitution of Ukraine, the duties and principles of police work according to the Law of Ukraine “On the National Police,” human rights protection at the UN level, and the European Court of Human Rights as a monitoring mechanism for the Convention.

They also discussed the introduction of the “Custody Records” system, which tracks all actions regarding detainees to ensure basic rights are upheld and to prevent unfounded accusations against police officers.

The lecturers emphasized that the most crucial aspects of their professional duties are respecting human rights, the legality of police actions, and upholding the honor and dignity of every citizen during the performance of their official duties.
