A binary lesson was conducted for the students of the Faculty of Specialist Training for Pre-trial Investigation Units of the National Police of Ukraine at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA).
The session took place at the Dnipropetrovsk Scientific Research Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The focus was on the specifics of the work performed by the specialists of the biological research laboratory.
Olena DOVBAN, the Chief Forensic Expert of the Human Genetic Traits Registration Department, deepened the cadets’ knowledge regarding the process of detecting, collecting, and examining objects that carry genomic information.
During the session, practical skills were honed in sample collection from buccal epithelium and the particularities of packaging these samples.
The experts also highlighted common mistakes made by authorized individuals when assigning molecular-genetic forensic examinations. The discussion included procedural aspects of issuing orders for conducting examinations, formulating questions for different objects, and evaluating expert conclusions.
