Training for Law Enforcement and Civil Society Representatives Held at DSUIA

Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Association of Women in Law Enforcement, conducted a training session titled “Law Enforcement Agencies and the Agenda of Women, Peace, and Security: Actions within the Structure and Interaction with Other Stakeholders (CSOs, Local Governments, Media)”.

The training aimed to provide information on global and national experiences in the practical implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda within law enforcement structures, as well as insights into collaboration with civil society organizations, local governments, and the media. The event focused on identifying current priorities and challenges in this area.

Speakers at the event included Larysa Nalyvayko, Gender Advisor to the Rector of DSUIA, Board Member of the Ukrainian Association of Women in Law Enforcement, Doctor of Law, Professor, and Honored Lawyer of Ukraine; and Olha Shulik, Regional Coordinator of the project “Women, Peace, and Security: Acting Together” (implemented by the Ukrainian Women’s Fund with support from the UK Government), Head of the NGO “Common Benefit”, and an expert on combating gender-based violence under various international initiatives.

The discussions brought together representatives of law enforcement, civil society, and academia. Among them were officers from the Patrol Police Department in Dnipropetrovsk Region, including Yelyzaveta Knyazeva, Tetiana Hutchenko, and Larysa Velykokhatko; lawyer Oleksandra Melnychuk; as well as psychologists and coordinators from organizations like “ProZhiti” and “Girls”, including Kateryna Chyzhyk, Maryna Zel, and Valeriya Bulhakova.

Participants from DSUIA included Senior Researcher Tsagik Oganisian, PhD in Law; Adjutants Tetiana Badalova and Yuliia Tkach; and psychologists Serhii Vyshnevskyi and Anzhelika Moroz, who shared expertise in stress management and psychological resilience.

The discussions covered historical and contemporary aspects of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, with a focus on implementing National Action Plan 1325 in the security sector. The training provided a platform for knowledge exchange, promoting the integration of gender-sensitive approaches in law enforcement and enhancing collaboration with other stakeholders.

This initiative aims to strengthen inclusive and gender-responsive practices in law enforcement and foster effective cooperation across sectors.
