DSUIA Cadets Attend Lecture Honoring Holodomor Remembrance Day

NEWS

A lecture dedicated to Holodomor Remembrance Day was held for cadets of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA). The event featured Yevhenii AFANASIEV, a course leader at the Faculty for Training Specialists of the Criminal Police Division of the National Police of Ukraine, as the keynote speaker.

During the lecture, cadets delved into the historical prerequisites and consequences of the 1932–1933 Holodomor genocide, which claimed the lives of 7 to 10 million Ukrainians. The man-made famine resulted from the Soviet government’s harsh economic campaign against the peasantry, ranging from “dekulakization” to the complete confiscation of food supplies and restrictions on migration to cities. Yevhenii AFANASIEV emphasized that the genocide’s aim was not only the physical extermination of the peasantry as a social class but also the suppression of national resistance to reestablish centralized control.

The lecture sparked a lively discussion, allowing cadets to reflect deeply on the tragedy and its repercussions. The participants agreed that honoring the memory of Holodomor victims is an integral part of national consciousness. Special attention was paid to preserving the truth about the Holodomor despite decades of Soviet totalitarian censorship.

In a symbolic gesture of remembrance, the cadets joined the annual nationwide “Light a Candle” campaign, observing a moment of silence at 4:00 PM to honor the victims of this tragic chapter in history.
