An event organized by the Department of Administrative Law and Procedure at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs was led by Tetiana SAVCHENKO, a social pedagogue from Synelnykove Lyceum No. 5.
Tetiana SAVCHENKO emphasized that ensuring student safety is one of the top priorities in modern Ukrainian schools. She highlighted the importance of collaboration between educators and educational security officers in protecting children, fostering a comfortable environment, and mitigating risks. It is vital for students to feel assured that they will not be left alone with their problems. Teachers must create a space of trust, while police officers should ensure protection from external threats.
The discussion also addressed challenges faced by officers in school environments. For instance, school principals may perceive them solely as a punitive force. Students sometimes do not see officers as people willing to help. Parents may disagree with conflict resolution methods, and teachers often misunderstand the role of security officers, complicating their cooperation.
Priority areas for officers were identified, including early problem detection, combating bullying, understanding the unique challenges of contemporary children, and fostering partnerships with students, parents, and educators.
The meeting enabled participants to better understand the role of police officers in schools and develop effective approaches for collaborative efforts to create a safer educational environment.
