For the second consecutive year, Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs has held the photo contest “A Smile Makes Us Stronger,” as part of the global campaign “16 Days Against Violence.” The contest aims to remind everyone that even during times of war, the Ukrainian people remain resilient, united, and full of hope.
The initiative was organized by university leadership and psychologists from the Psychological Support Department, who emphasized the importance of a smile as a resource that helps overcome challenges, fosters inspiration, and motivates perseverance.
On December 6, 2024, an award ceremony honored the contest winners. The event was opened by the university’s Vice-Rector, Police Lieutenant Colonel Ihor KOVALIOV, who presented awards in the following categories:
• “Portrait Photo” – Police Officer Daria USOVA, a student from the Faculty of Training for Pre-Trial Investigation Units of the National Police of Ukraine;
• “Selfie” – Officers from the Faculty of Training for Pre-Trial Investigation Units of the National Police of Ukraine;
• “Paired Photo” – Officers from the Center for Primary Professional Training “Police Academy”;
• “Group Photo” – Officers from the Center for Primary Professional Training “Police Academy.”.
Additionally, three winners were recognized in the “Audience Choice” category.
Valuable prizes were presented by Larisa NALYVAIKO, the Rector’s Assistant on Gender Issues, who highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering a sense of unity within the university. Volodymyr KOVBASA, another Assistant to the Rector, emphasized the need to continue the contest, underlining its motivational value in current circumstances.
The competition was conducted through the university’s social media platforms, where voting also took place, ensuring transparency and engagement. A total of 323 photos were submitted for the contest.
The photo contest “A Smile Makes Us Stronger” demonstrated that creativity and positivity can bring people together, inspiring them even during the toughest times. It underscored the power of unity and optimism.
