Emotional Intelligence of Police Officers: Training for DSUIA Cadets

NEWS

A training session on developing emotional intelligence was conducted for cadets of the Faculty for Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.

The topic of the session was “Psychological Aspects of Police Emotional Intelligence: Managing Emotions in Extreme Situations.” The lecture and practical exercises were led by Anzhelika MOROZ, a specialist from the Psychological Support Unit of DSUIA.

Emotional intelligence is a crucial tool in police work. A high level of this skill enhances effectiveness, helps reduce stress, and improves the quality of professional performance. Well-developed emotional intelligence allows officers to better understand the causes of conflicts, respond to emotional signals promptly, and choose peaceful methods to resolve challenging situations.

Cadets learned about the key aspects of emotional intelligence, its importance in police work, and developed practical skills for managing their emotions. During the session, future law enforcement officers practiced effective communication techniques and engaged in exercises aimed at improving self-discipline, empathy, and self-organization.

The practical tasks performed by the cadets will contribute to their ability to apply the acquired knowledge in both professional activities, particularly in extreme conditions, and everyday life. Developing emotional intelligence will help them become more resilient to stress, improve interactions with citizens, and foster a positive image of law enforcement agencies.
