Cadets of the Faculty of Pre-Trial Investigation Training at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs took part in an event commemorating the Ukrainian defender and actor Yakiv TKACHENKO.
Those who personally knew Yakiv TKACHENKO shared memories of his childhood, studies at the city’s theater school, and work at the “Dramikom” Theater. Attendees watched clips from films featuring the actor.
Yakiv TKACHENKO was a leading actor at the Dnipro Academic Drama and Comedy Theater and later performed at the Dnipro Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after Taras Shevchenko. He gained wide recognition through numerous film and television roles, including in Dovbush, Chervonyi, Mr. Jones, Bad Roads, New Life of Vasylyna Pavlivna, Blud and Kavun, and When the Trees Fall. In 2018, he was nominated for Ukraine’s national film award “Golden Dzyga” in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role as Slavyk in When the Trees Fall.
With the outbreak of the full-scale invasion, Yakiv TKACHENKO joined the Territorial Defense Forces of Dnipro on March 1, 2022 and later fought with the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Vuhledar. After being wounded, he was demobilized in 2023 but later returned to the front, joining the Third Assault Brigade. In late 2024, he was killed in action, defending Ukraine. In the coming days, he would have turned 46 years old.
DSUIA cadets emphasize that honoring the memory of fallen compatriots is not just about paying tribute to the past—it is a moral duty to those who continue to defend Ukraine today.
