“Azov Fighters” to Dnipro Lyceum Students: Art as a Weapon in the Russo-Ukrainian War

MIA Lyceum

Fighters from the 12th Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov,” with call signs “Kultura”, “Pechkin,” and “Nova”, visited the Dnipro Security-Oriented Lyceum and National-Patriotic Education named after O. Hostishchev under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The meeting took place in a shelter in the format of an open conversation.

“Kultura” shared with the lyceum students why he abandoned his acting career, how he chose to join the “Azov” brigade, why he switched to speaking Ukrainian, and why this was a conscious choice for him. He also explained how he encouraged his daughter to communicate in Ukrainian. He touched on his participation in combat operations as well. During the discussion, all lyceum students had the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers.

“Pechkin,” a veteran “Azov” fighter who endured the heroic defense of Mariupol, survived Russian captivity, and returned to service, shared many fascinating stories from his military life with the students.

The second half of the meeting was dedicated to a tactical medicine session. Under the guidance of instructors, the lyceum students reinforced their knowledge of the M.A.R.C.H. protocol algorithm and practiced skills for stopping critical bleeding (using tourniquets and hemostatic agents). The “Azov” fighters demonstrated how to insert a nasopharyngeal airway tube to ensure airway patency, explained how to seal chest wounds to treat pneumothorax, and showed how to position an injured person in a stable condition.

The lyceum students were left with positive emotions and lasting impressions from the meeting.

The event was supported by the Department of Education, Science, and Sports of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and became an important step in nurturing conscious patriots and future defenders of Ukraine.
