Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA) hosted training sessions focused on preventing and countering domestic violence. The event brought together police officers serving in educational institutions across Dnipro and the surrounding region.
The training was opened by Ihor Mahdalina, First Vice-Rector of DSUIA, who emphasized the critical role of the Educational Safety Service in ensuring a calm and productive learning environment for schoolchildren, particularly under martial law conditions.
Throughout the day, law enforcement officers engaged with experts who provided practical advice to enhance their service effectiveness. Anastasiia Yukhymenko, Head of the Southeastern Department of Free Legal Aid, discussed the implementation of a pilot project introducing international child-friendly justice standards in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Other pilot projects aimed at ensuring legal protection for children in contact or conflict with the law were also reviewed.
Colonel Maksym Chernii introduced the officers of the Educational Safety Service to the work of the Military Law Enforcement Service and shared experiences of collaboration with law enforcement agencies in combating domestic violence.
Mykola Repan, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Administrative Law and Procedure at DSUIA, together with Lesia Romanenko, Senior Inspector of the Domestic Violence Prevention Sector of Dnipro District Police Department No. 1 and Police Captain, highlighted mechanisms for identifying domestic violence in school settings. They also addressed significant legislative updates, including a new article in the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses concerning liability for sexual harassment, including online communications.
Trainers from the charitable organization ADRA Ukraine also participated, offering practical recommendations for assisting children who may become victims of violence.
At the end of the training day, Anatolii Kolotik, Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Education and Distance Learning and Police Lieutenant Colonel, thanked Olena Tkachenko, Head of the Educational Safety Service Organization Sector of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Region and Police Lieutenant Colonel, for her consistent and fruitful cooperation. He underscored that the participants, through their personal example, are helping to build a reserve of future university applicants.
