A binary training session on the interaction of police officers with children who have suffered from violence was held at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs. The event was attended by cadets of the Faculty of Criminal Police Training of the National Police of Ukraine.
The session was conducted within the framework of the course “Professional and Psychological Training of Police Officers”, initiated by Senior Lecturer of the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Pedagogy, Kateryna Mitchenko.
Yuliia Sidoruk, a psychologist from the NGO “Martin Club”, joined the session. She works on the “Rescued Assistance Center” project and is an expert in the registry of psychologists involved in criminal proceedings with children under the South-Eastern Interregional Center for Free Secondary Legal Aid.
Yuliia Sidoruk shared valuable experience in working with children affected by violence and introduced the “Green Room” methodology and the “Barnahus” model. Special attention was given to how understanding the specifics of working with affected children can improve the quality of police service and, most importantly, help prevent retraumatization of victims.
The session was an important step in preparing future law enforcement officers to work with one of the most vulnerable categories of citizens.
