An insightful online lecture in English was held for cadets of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA) by Gus Meershoek, a Dutch security management lecturer at the University of Twente and an expert in police integrity.
The event was organized by the Department of Language Training in cooperation with the International Cooperation Department. The central theme of the lecture was the preservation of police integrity.
Gus Meershoek, who also teaches police history at the Dutch Police Academy and researches law enforcement misconduct, shared the Dutch experience in preventing inappropriate behavior among officers. He emphasized the significance of professional culture, openness, and mutual accountability within the police force.
The lecture explored efforts by Dutch law enforcement to prevent misconduct, the disciplinary and corrective mechanisms in place, and the role of internal and external oversight, including the National Criminal Investigation Department responsible for investigating officers’ violations.
Cadets listened with interest as the speaker discussed anti-corruption measures, responses to abuse of power, and statistics on police misconduct in 2023, including incidents occurring off duty.
