As part of the cooperation between Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (Sweden), researchers from DSUIA are participating in the development of a new academic course aimed at strengthening community safety during wartime.
Within the framework of an international project to develop and implement the academic discipline “Community Safety in Wartime”, carried out based on the memorandum of cooperation between DSUIA and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA), academic staff from our university conducted an empirical study using the focus group method.
Natalia Komykh, acting head of the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Pedagogy at the Faculty of Training Specialists for Criminal Police Units of the National Police of Ukraine, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, and Associate Professor, together with Iryna Drok, Head of the Research Laboratory for Preventive Activities and Sociological Studies at DSUIA, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor, and Police Major, organized and conducted focus groups involving trainees of advanced training courses — representatives of the Educational Security Service of the National Police of Ukraine.
The purpose of the research was to identify key issues in the interaction between the community and the police under martial law, as well as to collect real practical cases to enrich the content of the future course. The collected materials will allow the educational content to be maximally adapted to current realities and help effectively develop practical skills in learners.
This initiative has become a significant step in the creation of an academic course that meets modern security requirements and optimizes the work of law enforcement agencies during wartime. It contributes not only to the professional development of police officers but also to the advancement of new forms of collaboration between educational institutions and the Ukrainian police.
