Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA) launched a training session organized by the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) titled “Advanced Course on First Psychological Aid: Suicide Prevention and Professional Burnout Prevention for Specialists.”
The training was opened by Ihor Mahdalina, First Vice-Rector of DSUIA. He emphasized the importance of the topic amid today’s heightened psychological challenges and wished participants productive work. The event, hosted by the EUAM in Ukraine, brought together police officers from Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions, psychologists from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and specialists from DSUIA’s Psychological Support Department. The training covered psychophysiology and neurophysiology of stress, brain function under stressful conditions, and the body’s stress responses. Special attention was given to coping strategies for managing tension.
The session thoroughly explored the process and causes of psychological trauma, modern models and protocols for trauma work, and stabilization techniques for states like stupor, agitation, and panic. Emphasis was placed on practical group exercises, applying tools based on real-life cases, and drawing on the trainers’ expertise. The training was led by experts from leading centers and higher education institutions, including representatives from Johns Hopkins University (USA). The event marked a significant step in enhancing the psychological preparedness of security and defense sector specialists for work in high-stress conditions.
