A lecture on the capabilities of OSINT in the field of cybersecurity was delivered to second-year cadets of the Faculty of Criminal Police Training and the Faculty of Pre-Trial Investigation Training at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.
The online session was conducted by Senior Lieutenant Viktoriia Kovtun, Senior Operative Officer for Special Cases of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
The expert shared practical experience and explained the specifics of open-source intelligence (OSINT) gathering, effective Google search operators, search engine caches, internet archives, and automated tools that assist in digital footprint detection.
Special attention was given to the use of GEOINT tools, which help identify the geolocation of objects — including real-world examples from colleagues involved in detecting and destroying enemy equipment.
The session contributed to forming a clear understanding among future law enforcement officers of how OSINT can be effectively used in combating cybercrime and safeguarding national security.
