Easter Traditions and Artistic Support for Defenders at DSUIA

NEWS

On the eve of Easter, a series of events dedicated to preserving Ukrainian traditions, enriching the spiritual life of youth, and supporting Ukrainian defenders through art took place at Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA).

As part of the FAMILY DDUVS project, cadets attended a themed meeting with the Head of the Social and Humanitarian Work Department, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nataliia Karnaukh. During the meeting, participants learned about the richness of Easter customs, especially pysankarstvo—the ancient art of decorating Easter eggs passed down through generations. The lecturer emphasized the uniqueness of regional ornamentation: the geometry of Prykarpattia, the floral motifs of Podillia, and the plant-inspired patterns of Poltava.

DSUIA also hosted an Easter pysanka painting workshop led by Nataliia Karnaukh for cadets, students, and pupils of the Dnipro Lyceum named after Oleksandr Hostiščev. Participants not only learned the egg-decorating techniques but also poured into each creation their love for Ukraine, faith in victory, and gratitude to those defending it.

This ancient craft became more than just art—it served as a form of art therapy. Such creative activity helps reduce anxiety, restore emotional balance, and foster creativity, which is especially important during martial law.

Some of the decorated eggs were gifted to military veterans during a recent table tennis tournament held at DSUIA.

Additionally, the workshop marked the beginning of DSUIA’s patriotic creative club. Organizers believe that promoting national traditions is another front in the fight for our identity, resilience, and spiritual strength.
