MIA Lyceum, NEWS

A series of events were held at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA) aimed at deepening students’ knowledge of psychology, its relevance in today’s world, and the development of emotional maturity.

Natalia Shynkarenko, a practicing psychologist at the DSUIA’s Hostiščev National-Patriotic and Security-Oriented Lyceum, conducted a training session for lyceum students titled “Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Competence.”

The event aimed to develop skills for recognizing and managing one’s emotions, as well as improving interaction within a team. Participants simulated real-life situations, analyzed their emotional responses, and explored effective communication strategies for difficult circumstances.

Іn addition, a meeting was held with the participation of Serhii Vyshnevskyi, Head of the Psychological Support Department of DSUIA, and Natalia Shynkarenko, during which cadets and lyceum students discussed the topic: “Top 5 Myths About Psychologists.”

Participants learned the differences between a psychologist, a psychiatrist, and a psychotherapist, why seeking help from a psychologist is not a sign of weakness, but rather a step taken by a strong and self-aware person, and why even the most heartfelt talk with a friend cannot replace professional psychological assistance.

Students also gained insight into the specific work of psychological services within the units of the National Police of Ukraine (NPU), National Guard of Ukraine (NGU), State Emergency Service (SES), and other agencies.

According to specialists, such events contribute to the development of psychological literacy.
