School Safety: Meeting with a Social Educator at DSUIA

NEWS

The Department of Administrative Law and Procedure at Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs organized a meeting for participants of the “Educational Safety Service” course with Tetiana Savchenko, a social educator from Synelnykove Lyceum No. 5.

The topic of the event was “Risks and Challenges Faced by Officers of the Educational Safety Service in the School Environment.”

Special attention was given to the fact that children’s safety in modern Ukrainian schools is one of the top priorities. Through effective cooperation between teaching staff and Educational Safety Officers (ESO), it is possible to create a comfortable environment for students and respond in a timely manner to potential threats. Students must be confident that they will not be left alone with their problems.

During the meeting, participants thoroughly analyzed the main challenges ESO officers may face: misunderstanding from the school administration, which may perceive them as a tool of control; distrust from some students; resistance from parents and teachers regarding the officers’ proposed approaches to conflict resolution, and more.

The participants agreed that the priority areas of activity for ESO officers include: early identification of problematic situations, counteracting bullying, a deep understanding of the psychology of today’s youth, and building partnerships with all participants in the educational process.

The meeting served as a valuable platform for shaping a modern vision of the ESO officer’s role in educational institutions and contributed to realizing the importance of joint efforts to create a safe learning environment.
