DSUIA Cadets Attend Elective Session on the Issue of Illegal Handling of Weapons

An elective session titled “Criminal Liability for the Illegal Handling of Weapons” was held at Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.

he event was organized for cadets of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Pre-trial Investigation Units of the National Police of Ukraine, aiming to enhance their practical legal awareness.

During the session, cadets examined the legal aspects of liability for violations related to the circulation of weapons, with particular attention paid to the boundaries of criminal responsibility, the distinction between administrative and criminal liability for similar offenses, and the factors influencing sentencing.

Special focus was given to analyzing the application of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as reviewing legislative changes that have occurred since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Topics included the circulation of weapons among civilians, voluntary surrender and temporary storage of weapons, and the circumstances under which illegal possession or use of weapons may be classified as a crime.

According to the organizers, in the context of martial law and the growing public focus on security issues, the topic of illegal arms circulation has taken on heightened significance. Such elective courses not only help cadets better understand the norms of criminal law but also prepare them to make informed decisions in their future professional practice.
