A psychological training session for cadets was held at Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs. The event was aimed at developing key psychological qualities essential for future police officers.
Participants of the training were first-year cadets of the Faculty for Training Criminal Police Units of the National Police of Ukraine. During the session, they immersed themselves in three main areas of psychological training: stress resistance, team cohesion, and psychological endurance.
The cadets learned how to recognize their own reactions to stress and how to manage them using breathing techniques, visualization, and body self-regulation methods. Through group exercises, they practiced listening, building trust, and interacting under time constraints and changing conditions. Together with psychologists, they worked on strategies to maintain motivation, resilience, and determination in difficult or non-standard situations.
The event was held in an interactive workshop format: cadets took part in active tasks, team games, role-playing scenarios, and exercises with elements of psychological training.
The main goal of the training was to build the cadets’ internal resources for overcoming stressful situations, increasing emotional resilience, strengthening team spirit, and enhancing psychological endurance. These components are fundamental to professional effectiveness under conditions of high responsibility, risk, and the need for quick decision-making—hallmarks of police service.
“Our task is not only to prepare future police officers to deal with external challenges but also to equip them with internal ‘body armor’. This means flexibility, the ability to recover from stress, and endurance in difficult situations. We aim to develop not just a specialist but a strong individual,” emphasized Alina Horodnychenko, the event organizer and a psychologist of the Psychological Support Unit at DSUIA.
The training was part of a comprehensive psychological support and mental health development program for cadets at DSUIA. Such events are a powerful tool for preparing them to face professional challenges that require not only physical strength but also strength of spirit.
