A meeting between cadets of the Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs and representatives of the Mobile Unit of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Ukraine recently took place at DSUIA.
The event marked another step in strengthening international partnerships and enhancing the legal awareness of the next generation of police officers.
The meeting was opened by the First Vice-Rector of DSUIA, Ihor Magdalyna, who emphasized the importance of cooperation between international organizations and Ukrainian state and educational institutions, and expressed gratitude for the extensive support that EUAM has provided to the university.
Cadets had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with Johan Sitrius, Head of EUAM’s Mobile Unit, who presented the Mission’s main areas of activity and its role in supporting reforms in Ukraine’s civilian security sector.
Attendees learned that since 2014, EUAM has been offering advisory, training, and mentoring support to help build an effective, transparent, and accountable rule-of-law-based law enforcement system in Ukraine, aligned with EU standards and principles of good governance.
Particular attention was paid to the Mission’s updated mandate, expanded in 2022 in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion. Among the new priorities are assisting in the investigation of international crimes, supporting the restoration of state functions in de-occupied territories, helping implement strategic reforms in the law enforcement sector, and strengthening integrated border management.
Participants actively asked questions about career opportunities in international institutions, EUAM’s cooperation with the National Police of Ukraine, and the role of young professionals in strengthening the security sector.
Such meetings contribute to the development of intercultural dialogue, enhance the legal competence of students, and deepen their understanding of key international processes that influence Ukraine’s reform efforts.
