Vladyslav Reshetnyak, a second-year cadet at the Faculty of Training Specialists for Criminal Police Units of the National Police of Ukraine, shared insights from his participation in an international intensive course.
A recent official trip to the Kingdom of Norway concluded, involving DSUIA’s First Vice-Rector Ihor Mahdalina, along with cadets Vladyslav Reshetnyak and Kateryna Sharamok. The purpose of the visit was to take part in the international intensive course “Operational Communication” and to study modern approaches to communication within police work.
The event brought together participants from Umeå University (Sweden), the Police Academy of the Netherlands, the University of Akureyri (Iceland), and the Lower Saxony Police Academy (Germany).
During a meeting with his classmates, Vladyslav shared that the trip greatly improved his communication skills, especially in interactions with various categories of people — victims, offenders, the elderly, and others. Additionally, DSUIA cadets deepened their knowledge in the fields of psychology and tactics and learned to maintain visual contact with a partner, keep a safe distance from an offender, and more.
In return, the Ukrainian participants shared national experience in combating domestic violence and demonstrated elements of tactical training to their foreign colleagues.
According to Vladyslav, participation in such events is a valuable opportunity to broaden one’s worldview, explore best practices from European countries, and strengthen professional training.
