NEWS

The Department of Administrative Law and Process of Dniprovsk State University of Internal Affairs held a concluding class on the subject “Proceedings on Citizens’ Appeals in the Work of Preventive Units” for first-year cadets.

The session was conducted by Police Major Nataliia Urman, Senior Inspector for Special Assignments of the Department of Human Rights Compliance Officers (based in Dnipropetrovsk region) of the Human Rights Compliance Directorate of the Department of Main Inspection and Human Rights of the National Police of Ukraine, together with Police Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Kharchenko, Acting Head of the Unit for the Organization of Temporary Detention Facilities and Monitoring of Actions Toward Detainees of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk region.

The cadets were introduced to the legal framework governing police operations and the duties of human rights inspectors—positions that have been established in every territorial police division. Participants were shown training videos on safeguarding the rights of detainees within police units, as well as real footage of emergency situations caused by improper conduct by law enforcement officers. Some recordings from surveillance systems were also presented, highlighting cases in which officers were protected against false accusations from the public.

The session generated considerable interest, especially as the cadets are about to begin their introductory internships in police departments. The students received comprehensive answers to their questions regarding the observance of human rights and freedoms in law enforcement activities.
