Emotions Under Control: DSUIA Cadets Master Key Skills of a Professional Investigator

NEWS

Systematic work on developing emotional resilience and leadership qualities among future officers of the National Police of Ukraine continues at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.

An interactive training session titled “I Know Myself — I Understand Others: Emotions Under Control” was held for first-year cadets of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Pre-trial Investigation Units of the National Police.

The event was organized by Alina Horodnychenko, a psychologist from the Psychological Support Department at DSUIA.

The focus of the session was on professional composure and psychological readiness. During the training, cadets practiced key components of emotional intelligence essential for their future professional duties:

• Self-regulation — managing one’s emotional state in complex and stressful situations;

• Understanding others’ emotions — building effective communication, especially in conflict or high-tension settings;

• Decision-making under pressure — maintaining a calm mind and professional stance during crises.

Alina Horodnychenko emphasized that DSUIA fosters not only professional competence but also the inner culture of a police officer — composure, empathy, and self-confidence. These qualities form the foundation of psychological resilience and public trust in the police.

An investigator with a high level of emotional intelligence is the key to effective service. This session became a logical continuation of the planned training of future investigators and highlighted the importance of developing soft skills alongside legal competencies.

According to the organizers, emotional intelligence is a practical tool that helps maintain efficiency, professional well-being, and moral resilience in a challenging field, where investigators face human pain, aggression, and emotional instability on a daily basis.
