Art Therapy at DSUIA: Master Class on Making Motanka Dolls for Military Veterans

NEWS

At Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, an art-therapeutic master class was held for military veterans and their families, dedicated to the traditional Ukrainian amulet – the motanka doll.

The event was opened by the first vice-rector of the university, Ihor Mahdalina, emphasizing the importance of psychological relief as a component of the defenders’ rehabilitation process.

The master class was conducted by the creators of motanka dolls, Olena and Dana: participants not only familiarized themselves with the history and symbolism of this cultural phenomenon but also mastered practical skills in creating their own items. Each family made a unique doll, giving it individual meaningful content.

Such events at DSUIA are held systematically and have proven their effectiveness as a tool for psychological support and recovery. Art therapy helps reduce anxiety levels, promotes the expression of emotions, restores a sense of inner control and harmony, creating conditions for the creative self-realization of veterans.
