Veterans Honed Their Skills: Table Tennis Training at DSUIA

NEWS, Sport for military veterans

The Department of Special Physical Training of Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs organized another table tennis training for military veterans.

The training was conducted by Ukraine’s table tennis champions Vasyl Koval and Valerii Melnyk.

Participants improved their playing technique, enhanced their physical fitness, and spent time in the company of like-minded individuals. Practical sessions helped practice strokes, improve coordination, and muscle motor skills.

Viacheslav Kaistro, a military veteran and participant in the Invictus Games, which took place in Vancouver and Whistler (Canada) in February 2025, joined the training.

Table tennis has significant benefits for veterans’ rehabilitation. It improves fine motor skills, trains eye muscles, cognitive abilities, as well as the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Low injury risk ensures a safe training mode. The game contributes to reducing stress and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, helping to focus.

Group sessions created a friendly atmosphere, promoting socialization and overcoming isolation. Such trainings are key to veterans’ reintegration into civilian life, strengthening their confidence and team spirit.
