NEWS, Sport for military veterans

The event took place in Stryi Park, Lviv, and brought together more than 120 participants from different regions of Ukraine. DSUIA veteran Yevhen Ratkov won third place in the “captains” category.

The IX All-Ukrainian Veterans’ Pétanque Tournament was held for the first time in the format of a full two-day championship. Twenty teams arrived from Dnipro, Kyiv, Odesa, Kovel, Poltava, Lutsk, Ternopil, Kamianske, Kryvyi Rih, and other cities.

Participants competed in three formats on 30 specially equipped lanes. Captains fought tête-à-tête, while two-player and three-player teams competed in doublets and triplets, respectively.

Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs was represented by military veterans Yevhen Ratkov, Ivan Zmiievskyi, Serhii Starokon, Artem Formalov, and Ihor Krasnoshlyk. As a result, Yevhen Ratkov earned bronze among the captains.

Playing pétanque offers numerous benefits for military veterans. It promotes physical activity without excessive strain on the body, supports coordination and motor skills, and serves as an effective means of psychological rehabilitation. In addition, pétanque is a team game that strengthens social connections, fosters communication among veterans, and nurtures a sense of unity—something especially important for those returning to civilian life.

Congratulations to the athletes! Wishing you fruitful training sessions and sporting spirit!
