The event was held in Kyiv at the Prosecutors’ Training Center of Ukraine.
Within the framework of the signed memorandum of cooperation between DSUIA and the public organization JustGroup, the university representative, Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure, Police Major Viktoriia Rohalska, participated in the development and conduct of the development program “Procedural Interview. Hate Crimes.”
The program was developed by the JustLearn development hub with the support of the JustGroup organization in cooperation with Social Action Centre, the Prosecutors’ Training Center of Ukraine, and Norsk senter for menneskerettigheter (Norwegian Centre for Human Rights). The program is implemented within the framework of the project “Support for Inclusive Recovery to Ensure Resilience and Security of People in Ukraine,” implemented by UNDP Ukraine / UNDP in Ukraine with funding from the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine.
The event was attended by prosecutors, investigators of the NPU, SBI, as well as instructors of higher education institutions, including DSUIA, namely: Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure Olena Soldatenko and Associate Professor of the same department, Police Major Alina Harkusha.
The program trainers were experts on the issues of hate crimes, as well as practicing prosecutors, detectives, and lawyers.
The purpose of the program was to enhance the capacity to systematically integrate the principle of non-discrimination into pre-trial investigation and the training system for investigators and prosecutors.
Participants learned about indicators and qualification of hate crimes, studied planning investigations, collecting evidence, in particular, conducting procedural interviews with witnesses and victims.
The next step will be the integration of the acquired knowledge into disciplines for current and future investigators, which will contribute to improving the quality of professional training.
