A training on enhancing the psychological competence of law enforcement officers was held at DSUIA

Together with the Ukrainian Association of Women in Law Enforcement, a training session was conducted for law enforcement officers on the topic: “Algorithm for Interaction with Individuals Showing Signs of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.”

The event, which gathered over 70 participants, was organized by Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs together with the Ukrainian Association of Women in Law Enforcement. Representatives of law enforcement agencies from all over Ukraine joined the event.

The training was developed within the framework of the Ukrainian-Swiss MH4U project “Mental Health for Ukraine.” The training is aimed at developing the skills of law enforcement officers to recognize manifestations of post-traumatic stress disorder, provide first psychological aid, and interact correctly with people in a crisis state.

The meeting was opened by a member of the board of UAWLE, Assistant to the Rector of DSUIA on Gender Issues, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Larysa Nalyvaiko.

The training speakers were: an accredited mental health trainer, member of the National Psychological Association of Ukraine Serhii Vyshnevskyi, and an art therapist, clinical psychologist, coach, and author of trainings Hanna Mhlynets.

Representatives of the psychological space “ProZHYTY,” the NGO “DIVCHATA,” and the All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Association of Ukrainian Lawyers” also joined the discussion.

Participants addressed a number of important issues:

– the relevance of working with individuals showing signs of PTSD in police practice;

– the algorithm for initial response to mental disorders;

– the specifics of interacting with individuals with PTSD;

– group discussions and basic assistance exercises in crisis situations.

Thanks to the training, law enforcement officers had the opportunity not only to deepen their knowledge in the field of mental health but also to acquire practical skills necessary for working in conditions of increased stress.
