“Heirs of Sherlock Holmes”: quiz at DSUIA

The event on the occasion of Lawyer’s Day was conducted by the Department of Criminology and Pre-Medical Training of Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.

Six teams of graduating courses participated in the quiz, represented by cadets of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the NPU, Faculty of Training Specialists for Criminal Police Units of the NPU, and Research and Training Institute of Training Specialists for Preventive Activity Units of the NPU.

The event was held in the format of a business game. Future law enforcement officers had to obtain forensically significant information regarding the fact of sexual violence from the victim.

Taking into account the knowledge acquired within the framework of the joint project of the OSCE Support Program for Ukraine, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and National Police during the “Autumn School on Investigation of Crimes Related to Human Trafficking,” which took place September 22–26, 2025, in Lviv, Professor of the Department, Lieutenant Colonel of Police Viktor Pletenets, together with cadet Sofia Norokha, modeled a situation aimed at establishing psychological contact with the victim to obtain important information about the crime and at the same time minimizing her psycho-emotional traumatization.

The summing up of the contest results included discussion of emotions that the “victim” felt during attempts to establish psychological contact with her as a condition for establishing the maximum amount of information about the circumstances of the event, with focus of attention on knowledge obtained within the framework of the conducted training of the “Autumn School on Investigation of Crimes Related to Human Trafficking,” comments of the quiz judges – head of the department Major of Police Hanna Bidniak and Associate Professor of the department Volodymyr Prylovskyi with analysis of shortcomings and positive moments, as well as demonstration of the theoretical and practical significance of the tasks solved by the participants.

As a result of the quiz, the teams scored equal points and shared first place.
