Trainees of CPPP “Police Academy” underwent a course according to modern European standards aimed at forming knowledge and skills of providing first psychological aid.
Psychologists of DSUIA who underwent training within the framework of cooperation with KMES, psychological service of Portuguese gendarmerie, National Psychological Association of Ukraine and European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations conducted training for trainees of the Center for Primary Professional Training “Police Academy”.
The training program covered such topics as action algorithm during provision of assistance; stress management methods and self-help; causes, signs and prevention of common psychological disorders; prevention of suicidal intentions; legal aspects of providing first psychological aid by police to different categories of population. Special attention was emphasized on mastering ICOVER protocols and principles of Steven Hobfoll’s model.
Participants practiced body-oriented and imaginative techniques, as well as practiced stabilization protocols in stupor and disorientation in small groups with subsequent checking of correctness of execution.
Leading training specialists Serhii Vyshnevskyi and Vladyslav Bidniak noted that between them and training participants constantly took place free exchange of experience and professional discussions regarding nuances of application of acquired knowledge in realities of Ukrainian society.
The greatest interest was caused by questions of features of interaction and first psychological aid to military veterans, combat participants, elderly people, children and adolescents.
The final stage was joint discussion during which results were summed up, feedback from participants was received regarding practical value of acquired knowledge and skills, etc. All participants received certificates of completion of 8-hour training of European standard.
