NEWS

A series of events with military veterans took place at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, where defenders shared their experiences with cadets and students, contributing to the development of their professional and patriotic outlook.

At the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law and Innovative Education of DSUIA, a meeting was held with Major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, active serviceman Andrii Ternovskyi. As part of the discipline “History of State and Law”, students learned about the daily service of Ukraine’s defenders, the challenges they face, and how historical traditions of the Ukrainian army influence the moral spirit of modern soldiers. Major Ternovskyi’s story emphasized the importance of the struggle for independence in strengthening national consciousness.

During a class on “Ensuring Human Rights in Law Enforcement Activities”, students met with military veteran and current DSUIA staff member Serhii Basinov. He spoke about his combat journey—from participation in hostilities to rehabilitation after injury—highlighting the importance of family support, camaraderie, and self-belief. Special attention was given to the topic “Prohibition of Torture in Law Enforcement”, where he stressed the necessity for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strictly comply with the international Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

Cadets of the Faculty of Criminal Police Training met with military veteran Viacheslav Lysenko, who has served in the 111th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion. In an open discussion, cadets asked him about trials, injuries, resilience, and the motivation that keeps him moving forward. His candid answers inspired the youth to deeply reflect on their professional duty.

Another event united cadets of the Faculty of Pre-Trial Investigation Training with military veteran and DSUIA staff member Pavlo Ostrohliadov. Together, they visited the Memorial to Fallen Soldiers at the Alley of Heroes, where they honored the memory of the fallen with a moment of silence and laid flowers. This act became a manifestation of patriotism, moral maturity, and deep respect for those who gave their lives for the peace and freedom of the Ukrainian people.

Additionally, cadets of the same faculty, together with Pavlo Ostrohliadov, watched the patriotic feature film “Call Sign Bandera”. During the discussion, the veteran shared his experience serving in the National Police of Ukraine and the National Guard, recounting his combat path that began in the first days of the full-scale invasion. His story highlighted the importance of resilience and devotion in performing one’s duties.

Such meetings help future law enforcement officers form a system of values based on honor, duty, and endurance. They encourage young people to consciously choose the path of serving their country, preparing them to fulfill their professional duties with a high level of responsibility and patriotism.
