Preparation of drivers with disabilities: DSUIA joined training at the invitation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Driving instructor of the Barrier-free driving school of DSUIA Serhii Kuliabko took part in an international training program organized by the Central Bureau of Driving Licenses of the Netherlands (CBR). The events were conducted with the aim of improving professional competencies in preparing drivers with disabilities according to European standards.

The main task of the visit of the Ukrainian group of instructors was to obtain a complete understanding of the concepts “driving skills” and “fitness to drive”, features of conducting training taking into account basic medical knowledge, tasks of the driver in road traffic taking into account his fitness to drive a vehicle, possibilities of compensation of limitations related to disability, methods of determining necessary auxiliary means and adaptations as well as familiarization with the most common of them.

Participants of the Ukrainian delegation familiarized themselves with the activity of the company for adaptation of cars Bever Autoaanpassingen BV visited an excursion and examined multi-adaptive training cars produced by the company.

The training program included mastering theoretical material regarding professional attitude to training of persons with disabilities, evaluation of their actions on the road (static/dynamic), obtaining basic medical knowledge and understanding of compensation of physical defects depending on actions during driving adapted cars including with the use of automatic control system or control with one hand. Classes took place at the headquarters of the Central Bureau of Driving Licenses of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (CBR) in the city of Rijswijk.

The practical block of the training was conducted at the training ground of the village of Andelst in the format of scenarios for practicing driving a vehicle depending on physical limitations with mandatory familiarization with available alternatives, coding and reporting of the European Union.

Special attention was focused on training of persons with serious mobility limitations and with reduced coordination using high-tech solutions.

According to the results of the training experts of the Central Bureau of Driving Licenses of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (CBR) checked the knowledge of the training participants involving experienced drivers with disabilities in test scenarios who demonstrated features of driving vehicles in real conditions.

After completion of the program all participants received corresponding certificates.
