Practical Training in Crime Scene Examination: DSUIA Cadets Master Forensic Skills

NEWS

At the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, a practical session on crime scene examination was held for second-year cadets of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine.

The session was conducted by military veteran Pavlo Ostrohliadov in a specially equipped room (“Katіvnia” training ground), which closely imitates a real crime scene. This format allowed the students to practice key stages of investigative work in realistic conditions.

The cadets learned about the algorithm of a detective’s initial actions, the basics of assessing the situation, the rules for documenting items, and ensuring the integrity of objects. Using the example of a simulated room, they identified inspection zones, worked with traces, navigated a confined space, and practiced teamwork.

Attention was focused on safety issues and the proper documentation of actions, which is an essential component of subsequent procedural evaluation.

Such sessions enhance the professional training of future investigators, develop attention to detail, stress resilience, and confidence in real pre-trial investigation conditions.
