Adaptive Sports for Veterans: Rehabilitation Activities Organized by DSUIA Representatives

NEWS, Sport for military veterans

The events were conducted by specialists and veterans of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs at local medical institutions.

Thus, a practical pétanque session was organized on the premises of the Dnipro Military Hospital by Viacheslav Panin, inspector of the DSUIA sports team of the Social and Humanitarian Work Department; Yevhen Ratkov, captain of the DSUIA pétanque team and a veteran; and Vitalii Krysan, researcher of the Research Laboratory of Preventive Activities and Sociological Studies. Participants were introduced to the rules of the game, key tactics, and essential features, with emphasis on the sport’s benefits for social adaptation.

Senior lecturer of the Department of Special Physical Training, Ihor Chobotko, conducted a table tennis training session. Together with the veterans, he worked on improving their playing technique, particularly serves and defensive maneuvers. At the end of the session, participants played friendly matches together with the DSUIA team.

With a friendly visit to the Superhumans Dnipro medical center, military veteran and DSUIA staff member Artem Formalov met with patients, shared his personal experience of recovery, and discussed ways of finding motivation.

During the meetings, university representatives also focused on career guidance: they introduced participants to the opportunities for entering DSUIA, features of educational programs, study conditions, and the support system available for military personnel who choose to pursue further education.

Such events are a vivid example of effective cooperation between the university, medical institutions, and the veteran community, aimed at supporting Ukraine’s defenders, developing rehabilitation practices, and promoting adaptive sports.
